I'm sure many of you have opened your TF2 server browser lately and have asked yourself "Why is there a different name on most of the FU servers?"
Apparently some of our now-previous staff and members were unhappy with how things were progressing within the FU community and felt that the community was "broken" and beyond repair. They have since started their own community and, unfortunately, have taken the Saxton Hale, Trade, Wario Ware, Freak Fortress, and Minecraft servers with them seeing as how the owner of said servers is no longer with us. Sadly, these servers were taken away suddenly and without notice so instead of having replacement servers set up we are now scrambling to replace servers that the community feels are wanted. That being said I would still like to wish this new community luck in their endeavours and would ask that no one hold any ill-will against anyone for the events undergone as of late. Fernando United isn't about hate and we never have been.
This last Sunday (August 5th) we held a Town Hall meeting on Mumble to get input from the community on what is wanted here at FU. We would like to thank everyone that showed up for the meeting. A quick run-down of what was covered is as follows:
- Server 1 moving hosts
- Setting up a new Minecraft server
- Forum/site changes and improvements
- Membership requirements
Server 1 Moving Hosts
The community has spoken and Server 1 is staying open! However, it will be switching hosts. We are currently stress-testing the new server and it can be accessed as follows:
Address: fu.svce.com
Port: 27015
Any issues or suggestions for the server can be posted in the forum thread here
Setting Up A New Minecraft Server
We are currently in the process of setting up a new Minecraft server. The old server save files were kindly made available so the new server will still have the same world as the previous server. More info on this will be available later.
Forum/site Changes and Improvements
We have decided to open the main page of the website to the community! If you feel like you have something that is worth showing on the main page of the website let us know!
Membership Requirements
Fernando United always has been and always will be open for anyone to join. We are not a clan, we are a community. In the past we have previously only required members to post an introduction thread on our forums before wearing the [FU] tag. We have seen many instances of people wearing our tag without any effort of trying to be involved in our community. Our members have decided that from now on, in order to wear the [FU] tag, you must join in our Mumble server and become acquainted with fellow community members.
Our community continues to evolve. We started off as a humble little TF2 community of fairly tightly-knit friends. Our steam group now exceeds 500 members and we are constantly branching off into new games. It is not uncommon to see FU members playing games ranging from Battlefield 3, to League of Legends and beyond. Though I admit most of the time I am pretty lonely on Diablo 3. It is quite amazing to see how FU has evolved since it was created two years ago.
I'm looking forward to the future of FU and hope you are too.
